Cornet Star Joins Eccles Borough Band

January 28th 2015

Eccles Borough Band are pleased to announce the recent signing of up-and-coming cornet star, Liv Appleton.

Liv began playing the cornet at the age of 7 with Old Hall Community Band; under the expert guidance of Peter Littlehales, joining Old Hall Brass aged 13, where she quickly worked up through the cornet section to take her place as principal cornet at 16. Liv and the band have achieved a string of recent victories; not least leading them to a first place at Fleetwood in her first ever contest as principal cornet.

The last twelve months have seen Liv play in a number of high profile appearances and performances with Old Hall Brass, North West Youth Band, and Foden’s Youth Band. She achieved a podium finish in the 2014 Foden’s Slow Melody competition for her age group and she has shared centre stage alongside her professional tutor and musical mentor, cornet superstar Iain Culross; from the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band, in sell-out performances.

“Old Hall Brass started my love for banding,” said Liv when asked about the move, “I’ve been with them since I was seven years old and I truly appreciate everything they have done for me in encouraging my progression as a player; I wish them all the best for the future. I’m looking forward to working with Eccles, it’s a fantastic opportunity to play with such an amazing bunch of musicians at such a promising phase in the band’s history.”

Liv joins Eccles Borough Band during a very exciting period of change and progression for the historic band. In the last year alone Eccles have lifted numerous trophies and accolades and have their sights firmly set on the National area qualifiers in March.

“I’m so pleased that Liv has agreed to join Eccles,” said the band’s musical director, Mareika Gray. “She’s just one of the many excellent players that have signed for the band recently, we’re honoured to welcome her into our ranks. Liv is a wonderful player and we’re sure that this is just the beginning of a long and successful career with Eccles Borough Band.”
